TITLE: COMMUNITY BASED WORK TRANSITION
CLASSIFICATION: COMMUNITY BASED WORK TRANSITION
JOB GOAL: Assist in the implementation of education programs by providing comprehensive assessments, evaluations and instruction to meet the needs of parents and children, including home visitation and instruction. The levels of Instructor are distinguished by independence of action and degree of judgment exercised. The Instructor I receives closer supervision.
REPORTS TO: School Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate Degree, Minimum of 48 credited college hours or Pass a state approved test.
- Previous experience working with children with special needs preferred.
- Has met the requirements of a criminal record check as specified by Kentucky State law and other requirements as specified in district policy.
- Must demonstrate and/or develop skills to operate office and educational equipment.
- Demonstrates competent language skills.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Basic instructional methods and techniques.
- Basic learning theory applicable to the student group served.
- Students with special needs, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds.
- Basic subjects taught in District schools including arithmetic, reading, writing, grammar and spelling.
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
- Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.
- Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
- Applicable sections of Kentucky Administrative Regulations and other applicable laws.
- Health and safety regulations.
ABILITY TO:
- Provide instruction working with children and parents with special needs, multi-cultural and multi- ethnic backgrounds.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Maintain routine records.
- Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Plan and organize work.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate and complete all required meetings and documentation with Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
- Collaborate with staff at high school to coordinate services for students.
- Provide pre-employment transition services with eligible individuals and small groups.
- Provide job exploration and counseling.
- Provide work based learning experiences.
- Provide work place work readiness instruction.
- Provide training in the areas of social skills and independent living.
- Provide instruction in self-advocacy.
- Complete career assessments.
- Complete job develop/training in the community.
- Conduct job development. Contact employers in the community to secure evaluation, training and placement sites for job development.
- Provide post school follow up services.
- Provide transportation (with District car) for student during job exploration and job development
- Conduct job development by contacting employers
- Conduct community based vocational evaluations
- Provide hands-on training with students.
- Perform other duties as directed.
